Hi I’m Lee Labrada, founder of Labrada Nutrition, makers of Lean Body protein shakes. We all know that in order to have energy, feel good, perform well and minimize body fat, we want to optimize our metabolism. In fact, we now know that one of the biggest reasons for the weight gain that seems to come with age, is a metabolic slowdown.
We also know that exercise is a great way to boost your metabolism, not only during the exercise, but for up to 48 hours after the exercise period. Exercise also helps to build muscle tissue which also helps to burn more fat, even at rest. But another way you can help to boost your metabolism throughout the day is by having a few high quality, low fat protein snacks.
Eating various forms of proteins can boost your metabolic rate by up to 20%! That’s a big help considering that many of us are not engaged in enough physical activity during the day. How big do these protein snacks need to be? Not that big at all! Depending on your physical size, they can be anywhere from 15 to 30 grams of protein. This should be enough to boost your metabolism, as well as help stabilize your blood sugar, for more constant energy.
Some examples of snack choices may include turkey or chicken wraps, hard boiled eggs, protein bars, protein shakes, yogurt, nuts, and seeds. Just search “portable protein snacks” and you’ll get dozens of ideas. It’s easy to meal prep every few days and make a number of these snacks that you can just grab out of the fridge on your way out the door in the morning. If you haven’t tried snacking on protein during the day, we’re confident that you will feel a positive difference!
