HOUSTON
Dec. 17, 2001
- Labrada Nutrition, a Houston-based leader in sports and fitness nutrition
and the makers of the popular Lean Body® Meal Replacement Bars and
Shakes, is partnering with 911 Fitness to recruit Florida police officers
and firefighters for a fitness challenge unlike any other. Police officers
and firefighters will go head-to-head in various teams and compete for
the team title of "Most Fit" in the Lean Body/911 Fitness
Challenge. The contest begins in select Florida cities Jan. 12 - 14
and ends April 6 - 8. The team that loses the most body fat and gains
the most muscle in the 12-week period and has the most measurable results,
wins a $5,000 grand prize and the title.
Proceeds from the registration for the 911 Fitness Challenge will benefit
Shriner's Hospital for Children to raise money to pay for therapy and
equipment. Teams must have a minimum of 3 members and must include police
officers, firefighters or civilian 911 Fitness employees. Team names
must be 911 related, and the registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 28,
2001.
"America
is learning more and more about the importance of health and fitness,"
said 911 Fitness founder Sim Sayih. "We thought this would be a
great way to unify American police officers and firefighters during
this patriotic time. The children really need physical therapy and supplies,
and we wanted to help out where we could."
Areas
participating include Boca Raton, Naples, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville,
Pensacola and Miami. Though Labrada is testing the success of this event
in the Florida area, plans for expanding it to other metropolitan areas
area being considered.
"Police
officers and firefighters hage to be in tremendous shape to be able
to do all of the incredible deeds they do all the time, and we thought
this would be a fun, friendly competative environment that would motivate
them to get into even better shape for a worthy cause," said Labrada
Nutrition President and CEO Lee Labrada.
