The Difference Between Good Muscle Soreness and Bad Muscle Soreness

Many of you who have embarked on a bodybuilding program recently have emailed me about your muscle soreness and whether that is normal or not.

Muscle soreness is a normal part of the recovery process that begins once you finish your bodybuilding workouts.  Muscle soreness is more pronounced at the beginning of your bodybuilding journey since your muscles are not used at all to lifting weights.  That is the reason why it is of utmost importance that you use the right beginning bodybuilding routine.  By doing so, you avoid getting injured or excessively sore.

Staying Lean: 11 Tips for Staying Lean

“What goes up, must come down.” When ‘70’s music sensation Billy Preston immortalized those words in his catchy tune, he must have been thinking about some of the professional bodybuilders gracing the posing dais these days. In case you haven’t noticed, it’s in vogue again to “bulk up” or should I say, “pork out” in the so-called off-season. This was a common practice from the 1950’s through the 1970’s, but I thought (more…)

How can I get bigger?

I don’t know if you’re like me, but when I train at the gym I have one intention. It’s to build more muscles. I’m sure this is the same for you.

As a fitness coach and personal trainer I need to answer this question all the time:

How can I get bigger?

It’s easy if you follow some simple rules. You will be able to increase your muscles mass without increasing your body fat!

Heavy Lift

First rule on the list is you need to lift heavy weights to increase your muscle mass. When you challenge your muscles enough, you damage the tiny micro-fibers of the muscle. With the right nutrition and enough rest you repair the damage, and with this repair your muscles slowly grow. To get good results, make sure you challenge your muscles with intensity in your workout. If you take too long of a rest in between sets, your muscles will not get the intensity they need to be really challenged. I suggest taking only just enough time to catch your breath (around 30 to 45 sec.) and then start another set right away.

By the way if you have never tried Super Charge before a workout…go for it! You will see a whole different you at the gym! (more…)

From The Vault: Blast Your Calves

Been trying to coax your calf muscles to grow without any success? If so, you’re not alone.

The calves are one of the most difficult muscle groups to stimulate in the entire human body. One reason for this is the resiliency of the muscle tissue found in the calves to the stress imposed on it by hundreds and hundreds of daily repetitions from walking and other common activities.

Remember always that you need to concentrate on getting the right nutrition on top of physical exercise. But what is this magic piece of advice?

It’s not a piece of equipment, it’s not an exercise…it’s much more important than that: it’s your technique and your attitude. To be able to gain lean muscle you need to push yourself enough in order to stimulate your muscle fibers. Most people know that.  Next time you go to the gym, look around and see how people work out. I’m sure you will find some good technique and a lot of technique that is not so good. (more…)

Introduction to A Bodybuilding Diet

Before we go into the details of what bodybuilding diets are composed of, let’s first and foremost define what the word diet means.

What’s A Diet?

The word diet typically sends shivers through people’s spine as it is often associated with starvation and with being food deprived. However, a diet is merely the food choices that one makes on a daily basis. For a bodybuilding diet we need to make sure that we select foods that help us to repair and grow from the workouts that we perform while at the same time fostering either a fat burning or a muscle gaining environment.

Training During the Holidays

The Holidays are approaching, Thanksgiving leading the way with Christmas and New Years closely behind. They are a time of joy and happiness. However, unfortunately, it is during this time that most people tend to forget about their workouts. If you are thinking about doing that, let me remind you that the only road that leads to is to a larger waistline.
