Are You Frustrated Because You Have Not Accomplished Your Bodybuilding Goals?

There are many reasons why people fail to achieve their bodybuilding goals.  Unfortunately, when goals are missed, many people get frustrated and toss the whole bodybuilding  program and never come back to it.  However, if you are frustrated with your progress, the best strategy is to regroup, take a look at your training journal (I am assuming you have one), analyze the reason the goals were missed and create new goals. Motivation: How to Harness the Power of Your Second Heart

Dear Friend,

Have you ever stopped and listened to the sound of your heart during a workout? After a set of squats or leg presses, sometimes you can feel the beat in your eardrums. It’s an exercise in self-awareness to follow its beat as you lay the weights down and it begins to slow back to its normal rhythm. Your heart is an amazing piece of biological artwork, continuously pumping life-giving blood to all of the cells of your body. That’s 1900 gallons per day to be exact, or 700,000 gallons per year. Physique Competition Confidence Boosters

Looking back over my competitive history I can say with certainty that one of the greatest advantages I had over my competitors was having my contest preparation completed in all the details, well in advance of the day of the show. Like everyone else, I trained hard and dieted correctly; that goes without saying. What I am referring to is attention to the details. For example, making sure that I had practiced my posing routine so that I could do it with my eyes closed if necessary and having my competition tan applied perfectly.

Paying attention to the details allowed me to create a high degree of confidence on stage at the Mr.Universe, Mr.Olympia, and other high level pro bodybuilding shows in which I competed. When you come prepared to your show, it lessens your internal level of tension, and that increases your confidence. Simply put, you have less to worry about. If you are a competitive physique athlete, you can benefit from these 10 tips for improving your performance and increasing your confidence at your next physique show: (more…)

Here I go again!

A few weeks ago I watched a popular weight loss show that runs on TV. I was especially interested in this particular episode because it was going to chronicle past contestants and show “where they are now.” Towards the end of the show, they interviewed a former winner who had put most of his weight back on.

He talked about how he had been caught in a downward spiral and the weight kept creeping on. The man was visibly shaken and embarassed because of the weight gain. The next day, on some popular “social” websites, I read different opinions on how he could let that happen. I heard comments about him in the gym and at work.

I know how it happened. I know what was going on in his head. I know the feeling. It was happening to me.

A few years ago, I was a morbidly obese 300+ pounder who ate subs, fries, chips, and cheese sticks. I was given a wake-call during a routine physical from my doctor and proceeded to lose near fifty pounds by crash dieting.

Over the summer, Lee Labrada appeared at a work conference and made the announcement that he was going to introduce a special Lean Body Challenge that applied only to us. I sat up, took notice and informed everyone that I was going to win it. Once the challenge kicked off, I was focused; I didn’t do everything correctly, but in the end, I emerged as the champion.

That should have been the end of the story…..

I have had my share of life stress during that time: we had another baby, I had a few health issues, we bought a house etc. Because I didn’t learn the correct ways to eat, (I ate the same foods over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and……..) I eventually fizzled out.

This is my notice that I am back! Registeration is completed, workout plans are organized, and most importantly, my MEALS are organized CORRECTLY. I am here to help others; at work there are some who have joined this challenge and I am going to support their efforts as best I can.

This time, this challenge, I will correct the many things that went wrong and move forward.
Here I go again…….

Simple Changes Make All The Difference

What would you say if I told you that your level of “self-discipline” might not be quite “up to snuff” when it comes to building a lean and muscular body? Before you answer, consider this: no matter whether you’re an elite body builder or a “couch potato,” you still have the same amount of self-discipline.

How is this possible? The difference lies in which habits you’re disciplined to.

Keep Yourself Motivated to Grow

“If you can’t measure your progress, you can’t stay motivated.” Write this into your workout log, scribble it on a piece of paper and tape it to your bathroom mirror, or just memorize it. Whatever it takes. It’s one of those immutable laws of nature that you don’t want to forget in your quest for a bigger, more muscular body. It hit me right in the face once again just the other night, while I was working out in our corporate gym here at Labrada Nutrition headquarters in Houston. I was on my third set of Smith machine incline presses when one of my Team members brought in a large, muscular bodybuilder who wanted to meet me.

It was obvious, even through his warm-ups, that this young man was extremely muscular and ready for competition. He was 5′10″ and over 235 pounds. Upon speaking with him, I learned that he would be competing in an upcoming Nationals qualifier in a few weeks.

After introducing himself, he asked me if I would take a few moments to look at his physique and give him my opinion.
