Dieting is NOT All-or-None!

How many times have you said to yourself “I’ll start (over) on Monday because…”?

The stuff that comes after “because” is an excuse, and we simply have to accept that.  I intentionally say “we” because I’m prone to the same tendency.  Contrary to popular belief, being an “expert” does not make dieting or training any easier.  I’m one of you.

Our tendency is to think that since we blew it with a bad meal or a bad day that we should just start over at a later date when we can be perfect.  If you let yourself do this, you’ll be in a perpetual state of starting over.  And that will get you nowhere.  Would you turn around in your car at the first sign of traffic?  Of course not, because then you’d never get to your destination.

It’s faulty logic that each day or week has to be perfect to count or to make a difference.  It’s not like that.  Each meal gets you either one step closer or one step further from your goal.  So if you blow it on Friday evening, why take three more steps back by eating three bad meals on Saturday?  Now you’re four steps further from your goal.

Back when Lee was competing do you think if he slipped up and had a cheat meal that he’d say “I think I’ll just start over cause I’ve blown it.  I’ll just skip the Mr. Olympia and do another show later on.”  Heck no!!

You shouldn’t do that either.  Simply do the best you can each and every meal.  If (or when) you slip up, don’t be silly and turn and run in the other direction.  Stay focused on achieving your goal one step, one meal, one workout at a time.

Yours in health,

Dr Clay
